If you have hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, you know the embarrassment it can cause. This disorder mostly affects the underarms, the soles of the feet, and/or the palms of the hands. Wherever it strikes, hyperhidrosis can wreck clothes, self-esteem and personal and professional relationships. The good news is there are ways to treat it.
Powerful Antiperspirants
Clearly, the antiperspirants that can be brought over-the-counter simply don’t work for people with hyperhidrosis. Some people with excessive underarm sweating respond well to prescription strength aluminum chloride hexahydrate. You put it on just before you go to bed for two or three nights running, then use it once a week.
BOTOX®
The famous protein serum used to erase wrinkles can also help with hyperhidrosis. It blocks the action of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and paralyzes muscles that control sweating. During BOTOX® treatment, your skin care specialist will inject the serum in multiple areas in both armpits. BOTOX® has been approved for underarm hyperhidrosis by the Food and Drug Administration.
ThermiDry
ThermiDry is a safe and non-surgical approach to cutting down on sweating and body odor. After administering a local anesthetic, the doctor inserts the ThermiDry probe into the underarm. This probe emanates radio frequencies that disable the sweat glands. Treatment takes approximately an hour with no downtime after. Results become apparent after two weeks and last two to five years.
Vaser Liposuction
Unlike traditional liposuction, Vaser liposuction is performed under local anesthesia in the office. The area of concern is first numbed with a special fluid, after which the local fat is liquified by way of a high-intensity ultrasound device known as Vaser. This process spares nerves and vessels while selectively disrupting the fat, which is then gently extracted with suction. This method can help sculpt more delicate areas with the utmost safety and efficiency.
