As we age, tissues throughout our bodies begin to weaken. This includes the pelvic floor muscles in both men and women. These muscles are important for many of our functions, including proper urination and sexual functions. Urinary incontinence is an especially major problem, a source of embarrassment and affects self confidence. Besides natural aging, childbirth also contributes to loss of strength in the pelvic floor muscles. Muscles can be exercised and strengthened. The most popular pelvic floor strengthening exercise are kegel exercises, during which contracting and releasing the groin area muscles repeatedly has been shown to help maintain better function. Unfortunately, most of us forget to do our kegel exercises and they are difficult to integrate into a busy lifestyle. Even for those who do kegel exercises regularly, they are often not as effective as one wishes due to lack of consistency and strength of contractions.
With Emvagin, you can have a 30 minute treatment twice a week for 3 weeks (6 treatments total) or 4 weeks (8 treatments total) and restore the strength of the muscles of the pelvic floor. Each 30 minute treatment is the equivalent of 11,800 kegel exercise contractions.
Benefits include improvement in both urinary and fecal incontinence as well improvement in lubrication, firmness and increased strength of pleasure and orgasms related to the vaginal canal.
How is the Emvagin procedure done?
The Emvagin procedure is a completely noninvasive procedure performed while you are clothed. You will sit with your groin area pressed onto a paddle which emits gentle high intensity focused electromagnetic energy (HIFEM) to the pelvic floor muscles, causing them to contract. We use the Emsculpt/Emsella platform for this procedure.
Does Emvagin hurt?
Emvagin is a painless, noninvasive procedure. You will feel the contractions as if you are doing kegel exercises.
Is there any recovery time wit Emvagin?
There is no recovery time with Emvagin. You can resume all normal functions immediately.
When will I notice results from Emvagin?
Emvagin results are noticed after each session. Best results will be attained after completion of a series of 6-8 treatments.
Are Emvagin results permanent?
Emvagin results are not permanent. The pelvic floor muscles, just like other muscles, if not used regularly, will weaken again with time. Results improve for and last up to 6-8 months. We encourage you to do kegel exercises at home for maintenance.
Are maintenance treatments recommended with Emvagin?
Yes, maintenance treatments every 6 months are recommended to keep the muscles tight. Some patients like to come once a month to keep the pelvic floor muscles fit.
Are there any side effects from Emvagin treatments?
Emvagin treatments are very safe and there are no reported side effects. In less than 5% of cases there could be temporary muscle fatigue from the procedure. There are no long term negative effects known.
Who is not a candidate for Emvagin?
You can not receive Emvagin treatments if you are pregnant and if you have any type of metal implant in the pelvic area. The magnets used for the Emvagin procedure could heat metal objects. You should also not get Emvagin if you have any sort of hernias in the pelvic area. If you have a defibrillator, pacemaker or electric pump, you would also not be a good candidate.
