What is Fraxel?
Fraxel has revolutionized the way in which skin can be resurfaced—a very sophisticated treatment to rejuvenate aging skin or areas of scarring. The fraxel lasers utilizes a million points of light to stimulate the production of new collagen to ease away lines, wrinkles and scars. It also lightens brown spots and does a surprisingly great job on vessels as well. Aging necks and chests respond well to fraxel also, as do aging hands. Stretchmarks blend with the surrounding skin much better due to fraxel’s ability to stimulate repigmentation in nonpigmented areas as well as to improve the overall texture and depth of scars. We recommend treating a scar with laser as soon as healing is complete to achieve the best results. The sooner we treat the greater impact we can make on collagen remodeling and for normal healing to occur.*
What Can I Expect During and After My Fraxel Treatment?
Before the treatment, your doctor will apply a topical anesthetic or numbing agent and possibly give you mild pain medication. Then the laser will be rolled up and down over the skin, which may cause an uncomfortable warm sensation. Cool air is gently blown on your face for the whole treatment, which typically takes about 15 or 20 minutes.*
For 24 hours after your treatment, you can expect your skin to appear as if it has a sunburn. In the following week, your skin may flake and brown temporarily, and you may experience some pinpoint bleeding. Applying cool compresses and sleeping with your head elevated can help minimize these side effects, and you should be able to return to your normal activities within a week.*
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
This depends largely on the extent of the damage you are looking to get treated, but you can generally expect between 4 to 6 treatments, spread out about 2 to 4 months apart.*
