Thermage® is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure, and it’s ideal for people who’re tired of sagging neck skin. By tightening skin, stimulating the growth of new collagen and restoring facial contours, this treatment can significantly improve your appearance.
The procedure is commonly called a non-surgical facelift because of the positive effects that it has on the face. In 2002, Thermage® was approved by the FDA and used for wrinkles around the eyes. Since 2002, it has been approved for several other areas of the body, and today, it’s routinely used for the neck and face.
The Science Behind Thermage®
Before considering this treatment option, you should understand how it works. Thermage® is effective because it generates heat using monopolar radiofrequency energy. The treatment uses electrical current to produce heat within the target area.
The subcutaneous tissues inside of your body create electrical resistance, and when the electrical current from Thermage® passes through the tissues, it generates a targeted amount of heat. Once your cells have converted the radiofrequency energy into heat, new collagen is stimulated within your body.
The heat from the procedure is effective for denaturing the collagen within your lower levels of skin, and over the short-term, the collagen is broken down, which causes it to thicken and shorten. After the procedure is finished, you’ll notice your skin getting tighter.
The collagen within your body is dramatically affected by heat, and since Thermage® applies targeted heat, it causes your body to replace old collagen with new cells. The heat from the procedure also increases blood flow, which helps to stimulate the metabolism and eliminate the fatty layer.
The Thermage® Difference
There are many other treatments for skin tightening, and they tend to use bipolar radiofrequency. This treatment is different because it uses monopolar radiofrequency. Put simply, energy from the device makes its way into your body, but it doesn’t travel back into the device.
The greatest advantage of the monopolar RF energy is that it penetrates deeper than the alternatives, and it can reach your deepest layer of skin. Since Thermage® is a non-ablative procedure, its effects take place under your skin, and it leaves the surrounding skin unharmed. The downtime for the procedure is virtually nonexistent.
