Patients who see us for microdermabrasion to eradicate their acne will have treatment sessions that last about 30 to 45 minutes. Photodynamic therapy can take up to three hours for a session so that all the cells absorb the product, and our popular Thermage® FLX treatments will take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes.
The Acne Eradication Treatments Available to You
AviClear®
What It Is
This unique acne elimination tool encompasses the miracles of modern-day cosmetic treatments and becomes a powerful asset to our expertise. AviClear® targets acne at its root, addressing not only the visible symptoms but also the underlying causes. Using a multi-step process, AviClear® begins with a thorough analysis of your skin’s condition and acne severity. This comprehensive assessment allows us to create a customized treatment plan that precisely targets your specific needs.
By harnessing the power of advanced skincare technology, we deliver a combination of therapeutic techniques that work synergistically to achieve optimal results. During our treatment sessions, we use the AviCool™ cooling device to maintain your comfort while the AviClear® device works to stop excess sebum production and remove acne as well as prevent the formation of future acne.
Who It’s For
AviClear® is suitable for individuals of all skin types and ages who struggle with anything from mild breakouts to more persistent blemishes. Whether you’re a teenager experiencing hormonal changes or an adult dealing with adult-onset acne, this treatment can provide you relief. We especially recommend this treatment for those who are dealing with acne as the result of overactive sebaceous glands and excess oils.
Chemical Peel
What It Is
This highly effective treatment harnesses the power of controlled exfoliation to rejuvenate the skin and minimize acne as well as acne scars. During the chemical peel acne treatment, we will carefully apply a chemical solution to your skin, customized to your specific needs. This solution gently removes the outermost layer of skin, effectively exfoliating and unclogging pores. By promoting cellular turnover, the treatment stimulates the growth of fresh, healthy skin cells.
We have several different peels available to choose from, including Jessner’s Peel, VI Peel, 360 Peel, Blue Peel, and your choice of glycolic acid or salicylic acid peels. Depending on the specifics of your condition or what you hope to gain from treatment, we can perform a light, medium, or deep peel.
Who It’s For
The chemical peel treatment is suitable for individuals of all skin types and ages looking to address acne blemishes and improve their skin’s overall texture and appearance. Whether you struggle with occasional breakouts or have more persistent acne concerns, our chemical peel treatment can be tailored to your unique needs.
We highly recommend this treatment to anyone visiting our office who is looking to change the appearance of acne or scars, wrinkles or fine lines, hyperpigmentation or dark patches, and sunspots or uneven facial skin texture.
ProFractional™ Laser Resurfacing
What It Is
This advanced treatment uses fractional laser technology to target and treat acne and acne scars, promoting skin rejuvenation and a smoother complexion. During treatment, we use a specialized laser to create microscopic channels in the skin. This process triggers the body’s natural healing response, stimulating collagen production and promoting the growth of new, healthy skin cells. The laser precisely targets acne and scars, minimizing their appearance and improving overall skin texture.
Who It’s For
The ProFractional™ Laser Resurfacing acne treatment is suitable for individuals of various skin types and ages with deep or shallow acne/scars who seek to address these imperfections and achieve smoother, more rejuvenated skin. This is our favorite treatment to recommend to those who have any type of scar located anywhere on their body.
Microdermabrasion
What It Is
This non-invasive treatment uses a small wand to exfoliate the skin’s outer layer, effectively reducing acne breakouts and improving overall skin texture. During treatment, we glide the wand across your skin, gently removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores. This controlled exfoliation process promotes the growth of fresh skin cells, diminishing acne blemishes. The microdermabrasion device sprays minuscule crystals onto the surface of the patient’s skin, using these to thoroughly exfoliate the top layer of the dermis.
Who It’s For
This treatment is also suitable for any and all skin types, as well as anyone who desires a reduction in acne breakouts and an improvement in skin texture. Microdermabrasion can also help patients with sunspots, stretch marks, blackheads, hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea, wrinkles, skin tone issues, and even large pores. We see patients for the treatment of their face, neck, hands, arms, and chest.
Photodynamic Therapy
What It Is
This treatment combines the power of a specialized photosensitizing solution and light therapy to effectively target acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation. During the photodynamic therapy treatment, a photosensitizing solution is applied to your skin, which is then activated by specific wavelengths of light. This activation triggers a chemical reaction that targets and destroys the bacteria responsible for acne, while also shrinking oil glands and reducing pore size. Patients who undergo this treatment will experience an uptick in fresh collagen production.
Who It’s For
Photodynamic therapy is a great option for any and all skin types who struggle with acne breakouts, including inflammatory acne and resistant cases that haven’t responded well to other treatments. This is our top treatment for patients who are seeking relief from sun-damaged skin as well as those who are looking to reverse their skin’s signs of aging.
Thermage® FLX
What It Is
This advanced treatment uses radiofrequency technology to target acne-causing bacteria deep within the skin and stimulate collagen production for the purpose of smoothing out the complexion. The device used during this treatment has a patented ThermaTip™ that precisely administers the radiofrequency waves in the desired areas. This energy gently heats the skin, effectively killing acne-causing bacteria and promoting the production of new collagen fibers.
Who It’s For
Thermage® FLX is suitable for individuals of all skin types who struggle with acne breakouts and desire a non-invasive and effective solution. Patients absolutely love this treatment because the results are often instantaneously visible, there’s zero downtime required following treatment, and the results can last as long as over two years. We commonly treat patients in areas such as the legs, buttocks, thighs, abdomen, face, eyes, neck, arms, and hands.
Why Do I Have Acne?
Acne most often occurs during adolescence, but it’s common in adults as well. Hormonal changes, specifically an increase in androgen levels, can stimulate the sebaceous glands, which are located beneath the skin’s surface. These glands produce an oily substance called sebum, which generally helps keep the skin lubricated. However, when sebum production becomes excessive, it can clog the hair follicles and mix with dead skin cells. This process forms comedones, more commonly known as blackheads or whiteheads.
The presence of these comedones creates an ideal environment for the proliferation of bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes. These bacteria thrive in the clogged hair follicles and trigger an inflammatory response by releasing certain substances that irritate the surrounding skin. This inflammatory process manifests as redness, swelling, and the formation of pustules or cysts, commonly known as pimples.
