Acne scars have been a sore spot for many people. A forever reminder of the acne that plagued our teenage years can be almost as debilitating. Techniques available have been varied based on the type of scars of the patient. Bellafill® is an option available through The Dermatology, Laser & Vein Center to treat acne scars.
Once acne clears it can leave deep scarring commonly called pockmarks. Depending on the severity of the acne, they can appear very deep or slightly noticeable. Applying makeup can sometimes exaggerate their appearance leaving the sufferer without hope of relief.
There have been techniques available in the past. Some were temporary and others surgical. There has not been any solution that was a permanent solution to this common issue. No one treatment type is perfect, but there are answers that can produce great results. More than one type of treatment may be necessary to produce the best results.
Chemical peels have been used to reduce the appearance of deep acne scars. A chemical, or fruit acid, is placed onto the skin to remove the top layer of the skin. If the scarring is too deep for the peel to infuse, there may be a need for several treatments. Some scars may be impossible to treat with this technique alone.
Dermabrasion and Microdermabrasion is a technique used to reduce the look of scars. This is a surface treatment and will not penetrate the skin deep enough to get to the deeper scars. This technique works well on sun and age spots, but isn’t designed to treat serious acne scars.
There is an injectable option, other than injectable fat or other temporary fillers, that has been proven safe for the treatment of acne scars. Bellafill® is a filler made mostly of collagen is designed to last.
Bellafill® will provide great results depending on the flexibility of the skin within the scar. There may be a need to combine different treatments for optimal results. Not all scars are the same. During the consultation, the practitioner will explain the options that will produce the best result possible for your skin. We offer multiple different options for treating acne scars, so if Bellafill® isn’t right for you our team of experts will help you develop a treatment plan.
