It can be difficult to achieve your ideal figure through diet and exercise practices alone. Many individuals that faithfully commit to a workout and nutrition plan still have trouble eliminating fat from a few, localized areas of the body. What is CoolSculpting®?
CoolSculpting® is currently the #1 non-invasive fat reduction procedure in the world. This cutting-edge treatment uses the gentle power of controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate excess fat from nearly any area of the body, including the:
- Double chin
- Inner thighs
- Outer thighs
Because this treatment eliminates fat cells through entirely non-invasive and non-surgical means, it is far more comfortable, relaxing, and effective than many other body contouring methods, with studies showing 95% of patients reporting high satisfaction with their results.
How Does Coolsculpting Work?
The cells, tissues, and other structures of the body have different freezing points. Once a structure reaches its freezing point, it begins to break down and is eventually removed by the body. CoolSculpting® takes advantage of this biological fact. Fat cells have a significantly higher freezing temperature than many of the body’s other components, allowing them to be safely frozen without compromising the health of the surrounding skin cells and blood vessels.
During a CoolSculpting® procedure, a CoolSculpting® applicator is placed over the patient’s desired treatment area. Cooling temperatures are delivered to fat cells over the course of 35 minutes for most cycles (up to an hour and 15 minutes for certain cycles), slowly destroying them in a process called Cryolipolysis®. While side effects like numbness, redness, bruising, swelling, and tingling are possible, these usually subside shortly after each session.
Because it can take time for the fat cells that have recently undergone Cryolipolysis® to be removed from the body, patients should expect their results to appear gradually. Typically, the first improvements can be seen after three weeks, with the most dramatic changes taking place after two to three months
How long is each Coolsculpting session?
Each CoolSculpting® treatment session depends on the number of cycles necessary to cover the areas which need treatment. Each cycle of CoolSculpting® lasts anywhere from 35 minutes (most common) to 45 minutes or an hour and 15 minutes. A treatment session can last from an hour and a half to a full day event. Either way, our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible and prepare you for the sessions.
How many treatments will I need?
Because studies have shown that up to 25% of fat cells are eliminated after a single cycle of CoolSculpting® in the treatment area, the number of treatments will vary from patient to patient depending on treatment area size and response. We recommend budgeting for two treatments at the minimum. Some patients may require a third or a fourth treatment session.
What should I expect during my procedure?
During the procedure you will feel some tugging initially as the handpiece grabs as much of the skin and underlying fat. You will then begin feeling cold in the treatment area, followed by being numb within 5-7 minutes. At the conclusion of the treatment cycle, the skin will begin thawing and might feel slightly uncomfortable or strange as the nerves wake back up. We recommend following each cycle by Z wave, a photoacoustic treatment that has clinically been proven to break up the fat cells much more significantly than a vigorous manual massage.
Are there any side effects with Coolsculpting?
CoolSculpting® is FDA approved and safe. It has not been shown to cause any increase in free fatty acids, lipids or cholesterol that would have an adverse effect on health. The local treatment area will likely be a little red, swollen and tender after treatment. This can last from a few hours for redness to a few days for the swelling and tenderness. Sometimes a mild amount of tenderness to touch may remain for a few weeks as the fat cells continue to be eliminated. Bruising to the treatment area is also a possibility in those prone to bruising. All side effects are temporary.
What is the downtime for CoolSculpting?
One of the main reasons for choosing CoolSculpting® over a procedure such as liposuction is because of the lack of downtime. Unlike liposuction, no compressive garment is required and one can resume normal daily activities immediately and exercise within a few days depending on level of soreness afterwards.
When will I see results?
Results will begin within a week for some patients, while other patients may not notice a significant change for several weeks out. It usually takes between 6-12 weeks to realize final results after each treatment. Repeat treatment is recommended at 6 weeks ideally. Some patients may not see significant changes until 3 months after their second or third treatment. Although rare, some patients may not see any results for reasons beyond anyone’s control.
Am I a good candidate?
If you have specific pockets of fat that you would like to flatten out and you are in good health and have no contraindications to the procedure, you would be a good candidate.
